TAHIP-PUSO
(Fluttering Heart)
Bayani Mendoza de Leon
Arr. Bayani Mendoza de Leon
This piece was written by the composer as scene background music in one of his early zarzuelas or musicales. Because it was not meant to be sung, he had allowed more freedom in its melodic structure, contour, and reach. There's even a curious instance of an abrupt modulation in the second section, although it eases back shortly into the main key. Despite its restless character, this serenade evokes a plaintive sentiment that is unmistakably Filipino.
